  18. I've been trying to get Trumpet Winsock to work right for some time now.  
  19. My symptoms are kinda wierd.  I can connect and run programs just fine, but 
  20. when I'm getting files or in general recieving any info, nothing happens 
  21. unless I jiggle the mouse continuously.  My first thought war IRQ 
  22. conflicts, but my mouse is on COM 1 and my modem is installed as COM 4.  
  23. For reference, I am using a ZEOS 486DX266 with a Viva ZOOM Fax/Modem.

  42. Subject: I'm ready to spend money - free and shareware WINSOCK not ok

  44. Ok, I've done everything I can do.

  46. Trumpet Winsock is not ok here.  For whatever reason, it appears to be 
  47. dropping incoming interrupts or something similar.  The problem I 
  48. consistantly see is fairly long pauses, some of several seconds.  These 
  49. are <not> the normal "jerkyness" of a SLIP or PPP session.  These are 
  50. problems.

  52. Therefore, I'm in the market for a Winsock implementation which has:
  53.  
  54. 1)    Internal PPP (preferred) or SLIP
  55. 2)    Dialer support w/scripting of some kind.  Bonus opints if it stores
  56.     the file in a place and fashion that it can be easily created by 
  57.     a program I write.
  58. 3)    Auto-dial / auto-hangup would be nice (ie: go inactive for long
  59.     enough and it disconnects; calls, logs in and goes when there is
  60.     traffic waiting.
  61. 4)    Bonus points - can take calls, take a user/password, and establish
  62.     a connection (from the caller) and apply rule #3 for hangups.
  63.  
  64. 5)    REASONABLE costs.  Commercialware is ok here, I am willing to pay
  65.     money and urge customers to pay money too.  There are lots of
  66.     customers and I'm not the only one who wants this.  This adds
  67.     up to large amounts of money available to the company that
  68.     ends up selling these (ie:  lots of reason to do so).  However,
  69.     the market is NOT there for $400 packages.  This has to either be
  70.     reasonably priced or have the Cat's Meow packaged with it, and
  71.     in many cases the "add-ons" are irrelevant to the users.

  73. 6)    Performance.  No crashes, no screwball pauses, no problems. 
  74.     And if there are, you will fix them pronto.  Or no dice.

  76. If anyone has recommendations, or wants to send me something to try here
  77. and evaluate, please let me know.  My metric is a MAC Powerbook w/MacPPP; 
  78. if you are at least that good (and there are problems with the Powerbook
  79. implementation) then you probably get a recommendation and some sales.

  81. Someone has to have a reasonably-priced WINSOCK with SLIP and PPP that
  82. works.  Where are you!
